Taicang, under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, administrates Taicang Port Economic Development Zone (Port &New District) and seven towns. The registered permanent residents are 460.000 while temporary residents are 350,000. Taicang covers an area of 823 square kilometers, of which 648 square kilometers land area.
Taicang is the port city nearest to the mouth of the Yangtze River as well as one of the most developed county-level cities in China. Taicang ranks 9th among top ten wealthiest cities (county-level) in China and ranks 8th in the 6th session of county-level basic economic competitiveness, and it was awarded the most valuable development zone for investment in terms of comprehensive strength in Yangtze River Delta Region. Meanwhile, Taicang was one of the 6 first cities in Jiangsu Province taking the lead in realizing a moderately prosperous society.
Taicang has been successively awarded the National Sanitary City, National Environment Protection Model City, National Model Unit for Social Security Comprehensive Management, Excellent Tourism City of China, National Garden City and National Ecological Demonstration Zone and so on.
